Leadership AT ILCM
Campus Ministry Leaders
Immanuel Lutheran Campus Ministry encourages students, faculty and staff to join us in ministry. We have a group of dedicated leaders who use their gifts serving, supporting and equipping others to live out their faith in Christ! Get to know them below.
Alaina Ruppert is a graduate student in Accounting who loves to sing her favorite Christian and country songs. She has served Immanuel since the fall of 2014. Alaina adores penguins and loves coffee. She enjoys photography, painting, and cooking at the Student Center. Some of her favorite sports are Cubs baseball, Penguins hockey, and Colts football. Along with her favorite sports teams, Netflix and Food Network are just about the only things you'll see on her TV. She really enjoyed working on the float this year and is super excited for graduation in May!
Katie Ervin is a junior Management Information Systems major at Eastern Illinois University. In her free time, Katie likes playing tennis, bargain shopping and journaling. She is also a scented candle and flavored coffee creamer enthusiast and enjoys listening to scientific podcasts while on walks or during long car rides.
Audrey Rex has been at Immanuel since her Freshman year and has been serving since fall 2016. She is currently a sophomore who is majoring in Biochemistry and Pre-Veterinary Medicine and is involved in research. She is excited to cook and eat the food cooked in the student center while working on the award winning homecoming float! Her favorite things include food (of course), animals, and Netflix. Fall 2017, she is participating in a student exchange program and will be spending the semester in Georgia! She is excited to see you all come Spring 2018!
This is Sami Boomgarden's second year serving Immanuel Lutheran Campus Ministry. She is a junior with psychology and pre-medicine majors with minors in both chemistry and neuroscience. She enjoys spending time with her friends, watching Netflix (the nerdier the show the better), and listening to musical soundtracks. She is so excited for all the opportunities that this new year will hold!
Greg Witto has been the Director of Campus Ministry at Immanuel since 1994. He is married to Cindy (an EIU Alum) and they have two children Joy and Paul. He enjoys sports, woodworking and reading a good book! "It is a great pleasure to serve in ministry with young adults in this campus community! My family enjoys the wonderful relationships we have developed with so many college students over the years."
Mark and Carol Bomball are long time members of the Charleston community and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mark is a retired EIU instructor in the business department and Carol retired from the Charleston school district as a high school teacher.
Kevin Hastings earned a bachelor's degree in 1998 and a master's degree in 2000 from EIU. He was an active leader in ILCM from 1996-2000 meeting many people who are still good friends today. "There are so many memories there, and it is a blessing to continue making memories being involved with the ministry." He teaches math at Parkland College in Champaign since graduating, enjoys playing organ, Cardinals baseball, Illini football, and time with friends and family.
Emma Hackler is retired after serving as a nurse for fifty years. She is the mother of 5, grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 4. She is a long time member of Immanuel whose husband served faithfully as Immanuel’s pastor from 1977-1991 and was Pastor Emeritus before he went to be in heaven in 2006. Emma loves to be with young adults and encourages them to consider Immanuel as their church family away from home.
Carla Thomas has been a member at Immanuel since 1992 along with her husband Ed. She is a Physical Therapist, an avid bicyclist, and band booster for CHS where her children Joe and Rachel play in various bands.
